Sakurajima (Kyushu, Japan): The volcano has been very calm recently. After 2 weeks with no recorded explosions, a few relatively small ones occurred yesterday and today, producing ash plumes that rose to 7-8,000 ft (2-2.5 km) altitude.
Kerinci (Sumatra): A small eruption was seen from the volcano this morning at 07:44 local time. An ash plume from an explosion at the summit of Indonesia’s highest active volcano rose approx. 400 m from the summit crater.
Kliuchevskoi (Kamchatka): The effusion of a lava flow on the southeastern flank of the volcano continues with little changes. A second flow branch has recently made its appearance.
For now, no significant explosive activity is present, although this could of course change quickly (as often has in the past). A strong thermal signal is visible on satellite data.
Michael (United Kingdom, South Sandwich Is): At least some intermittent mild eruptive activity might be continuing at the volcano.
On a recent satellite image, a weak dark line possibly indicating an ash plume can be seen.
Turrialba (Costa Rica): Following a 4 days pause in activity, new ash emissions have been occurring from the volcano again since yesterday.
Activity seems to have restarted gradually on Wednesday and became more intense yesterday morning, when a plume rising up to approx. 2000 m could be observed during clear weather. Small ash falls were noted in downwind areas.
Yellowstone (Wyoming, USA): The activity at the caldera (seismicity, deformation, degassing etc) remains at normal levels. Despite continuing rumors and fear-mongering media (unsupported by facts), there is currently no sign to believe that the so-called “supervolcano” is about to erupt violently anytime soon.
The USGS Yellowstone Volcano Observatory (YVO) who monitors the caldera’s seismic activity, its ground deformation and other geophysical parameters very closely maintains therefore Yellowstone’s current status level at “green” = “normal” – actually, the most typical state of any of the world’s thousands of active volcanoes.
Yellowstone’s current observed activity underground and at the surface (mostly hydrothermal in nature, e.g. its hot mineral springs and geysers) falls well within this normal activity state and should not be sign of worry.
