I’ve written previously about how my grandparents and parents survived during the Great Depression. Although growing up with parents from the Depression had its drawbacks (those $5 tennis shoes are just as good as the $30 Vans shoes, I was told), I realize now that I actually learned quite a few survival skills from them.
Perhaps one of the biggest things I learned was to identify a “need” from a “want” Yes, I needed shoes, but I wanted Vans. My mother would often ask me: “What do you need it for?” If I couldn’t prove I needed it, I rarely got it.
In this article, I want to take a look at the things my parents, and others, simply did without during those difficult times – things our great-grandparents never had.
1. Cable television
Television can be cheap entertainment and a good place for news, weather and other important updates. However, one thing we could live without are cable channels. Putting an antenna on your roof will work just fine.
2. Disposable goods
Somewhere along the way, we have forgotten that disposables were meant to be used in emergency or only for travel. Plastic bags weren’t really even commonly used until the 1960s and no one “needs” disposable coffee cups, paper plates, plastic forks and one-time-use razors.
[Editor’s Note: Have you noticed how deadly outbreaks have been occurring more frequently? Remember the Ebola scare? Or the avian flu epidemic? While many of these spread in third world countries, they are escalating in severity. Mother Nature may be telling us something.
Presently, the pneumonic plague or as many of us know as The Black Death has resurfaced and it’s airborne. Thus far, 684 plague cases and 57 deaths have occurred from an airborne transmission of the plague in Madagascar and Seychelles. One fact is certain, this outbreak is spreading at an alarming rate and many in the affected area are scrambling for face masks, supplies and most importantly, antibiotics.
Only time will tell if this outbreak moves to other parts of the world, but it is important to keep a vigilant eye on this health crisis and know how to protect yourself to mitigate the effects.]
There has been an outbreak of plague, the pneumonic form that can be transmitted directly through airborne transmission, involving direct contact with someone who has been infected. Although this is taking place far away on the islands of Madagascar and Seychelles off the coast of East Africa, the Ebola outbreak a few years ago showed that such outbreaks cannot always be completely confined.
How to Protect Yourself Against the Pneumonic Plague
I researched a WHO site that lists pharmacological treatments for the plague. The resource is 79 pages in length, authored by two medical doctors. It comes directly from a WHO (World Health Organization) plague manual from Chapter 3 entitled “Treatment of Plague.” I am going to list the top three plague medications from the article here:
1.Streptomycin is the number one drug for the treatment of Yersinia pestis (the plague bacteria) and specifically effective against pneumonic plague. The dosage is 30 mg per kg (of patient body weight…conversion being 1 kilogram = 2.2 pounds). Up to 2 grams per day can be administered in divided doses, injected intramuscularly for a course lasting 10 days or until 3 days after the body temperature of the patient has returned to normal.
2. Chloramphenicol: can also be used to treat plague, with a dosage of 50 mg/kg/day in divided dosages. The dose is given parenterally (by IV) or orally, for a period of 10 days.
3. Tetracycline is an antibiotic that is bacteriostatic. This means that bacteria does not grow/spread with its administration. This antibiotic can be used in treatments of plague. Loading (initial) dose of 15 mg/kg is given, not to exceed 1 g total. Subsequent dosages are 25-50 mg/kg/day, with no more than 2 g per day given, for a total of 10 days. It can be given as an adjunct to other antibiotics. Caution in that expired Tetracycline cannot be used past the expiration date, because it is hepatotoxic (poisonous to the liver). It also causes photosensitivity (makes one sensitive to sunlight).
Preparing for Outbreaks by Using Multipurpose Drugs
The website, www.rightdiagnosis.com lists Ciprofloxacin as a drug to use against pneumonic plague post exposure. Ciprofloxacin prevents the plague bacteria’s DNA from being able to replicate. In short, it stifles reproduction of the bacteria, and it is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. The FDA authorized it as a preventative medication and as a treatment. Dosage (a website for drugs at www.drugs.com ) lists it 500 to 750 mg orally every 12 hours for 14 days.
In case you haven’t been following the news, the drug listed above,Ciprofloxacin is also a drug that can treat against Anthrax. Yeah, one of the bio-weapons that North Korea is believed to have stockpiled…with the capability to deliver to the United States via a missile.
In addition, the shelf-life to the last med is at least 10 years, and it doesn’t need refrigeration. It is also available as an aquarium med from veterinary pet suppliers without a happy prescription from your smiling, happy, perfect doctor. So now Mr. and Mrs. Hallmark and family can stock up on something that may help if the pneumonic plague crosses borders and the ocean, as well as picking up something that may be used to treat for anthrax initiated by a war.
Preparation and survival must take into consideration the nature of the disaster that strikes for an apocalyptic/SHTF scenario, but you must also consider what is going on prior to the event… because chances are high that it won’t stop going on! Outbreaks that are contained will become epidemics when a collapse happens or a nuclear war. You want to well-round your supply stores with what is needed before you need it. Be smart, and update your supplies periodically, so that you’re never without a current and working supply of meds. More information will be published on this outbreak in the near future where we will cover more on the plague and go over some herbal remedies that may help in case you can’t acquire the meds listed here. JJ out!

There could be more trouble than we ever imagined headed our way on November 4th when a bunch of folks who aren’t happy about Trump and Pence attempt to overthrow the government in a Communist revolution.
Groups like Antifa, Resist Fascism, and the Revolutionary Communist Party have been meeting for months to openly plan sedition and organize what they promise will be massive protests all over the country. Don’t be surprised if things become violent. The website says:
ON NOVEMBER 4, 2017:
We will gather in the streets and public squares of cities and towns across this country, at first many thousands declaring that this whole regime is illegitimate and that we will not stop until our single demand is met: This Nightmare Must End: the Trump/Pence Regime Must Go!
Our protest must grow day after day and night after night—thousands becoming hundreds of thousands, and then millions—determined to act to put a stop to the grave danger that the Trump/Pence Regime poses to the world by demanding that this whole regime be removed from power.
Our actions will reflect the values of respect for all of humanity and the world we want—in stark contrast to the hate and bigotry of the Trump/Pence fascist regime.
Our determination to persist and not back down will compel the whole world to take note. Every force and faction in the power structure would be forced to respond to our demand. The cracks and divisions among the powers already evident today will sharpen and widen. As we draw more and more people forward to stand up, all of this could lead to a situation where this illegitimate regime is removed from power.
Spread the word and organize now. Be a part of making history. Don’t let it be said that you stood aside when there was still a chance to stop a regime that imperils humanity and the Earth itself. Join in taking to the streets and the public squares day after day and night after night demonstrating that In the Name of Humanity, We REFUSE to Accept a Fascist America.
On November 4, 2017, we will stand together with conviction and courage, overcoming fear and uncertainty, to insist that: This Nightmare Must End: The Trump/Pence Regime Must GO! (source)
Back in August, I wrote about conferences held across the nation to begin planning these riotsprotests. Conferences were held in New York, Chicago, Austin, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. This is something that has been in the works for months, and basically, every group that is un-American is in on it.
What do they want to replace the Trump/Pence “regime” with?
I’m glad you asked. Their plan is to replace our current form of government with first, Socialism and ultimately, Communism. Clearly they’ve learned nothing from the brutal collapse of Venezuela.
It says so right in the preamble to their constitution. Oh, wait – I forgot to tell you – they have a draft of a constitution with which they want to replace the governing document of America. It’s called, “The Constitution for the New Socialist Republic in North America.” Here’s a little snippet from the introduction:
It is intended to set forth a basic model, and fundamental principles and guidelines, for the nature and functioning of a vastly different society and government than now exists: the New Socialist Republic in North America, a socialist state which would embody, institutionalize and promote radically different relations and values among people; a socialist state whose final and fundamental aim would be to achieve, together with the revolutionary struggle throughout the world, the emancipation of humanity
as a whole and the opening of a whole new epoch in human history–communism–with the final abolition of all exploitative
and oppressive relations among human beings and the destructive antagonistic conflicts to which these relations give rise.
In order to bring this new socialist state into being, it would be necessary to thoroughly defeat, dismantle and abolish the capitalist-imperialist state of the USA; and this in turn would only become possible with the development of a profound and acute crisis in society and the emergence of a revolutionary people, in the millions and millions, who have the leadership of a revolutionary communist vanguard and are conscious of the need for revolutionary change and determined to fight for it. To work for this objective–to hasten while awaiting the emergence of these necessary conditions, with the goal of revolution and ultimately communism clearly in mind–is the strategic orientation of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA. (source)
They mince no words when stating that their ideal is a dictatorship.
The New Socialist Republic in North America is, like all states, a form of dictatorship–the dictatorship of the proletariat–which means that, in its essential character and its basic principles, structures, institutions and political processes, it must give expression to and serve the fundamental interests of the proletariat, a class whose exploitation is the engine of the accumulation of capitalist wealth and the functioning of capitalist society and whose emancipation from its exploited condition can only be brought about through the communist revolution, with its goal of abolishing all relations of exploitation and oppression and achieving the emancipation of humanity as a whole. In accordance with this, the 4 Constitution for the New Socialist Republic in North America (Draft Proposal) governing bodies and processes of this socialist state, at all levels, must be vehicles for the furtherance of the communist revolution; and, as a key dimension of this, they must provide the means for those who were exploited and oppressed in the old society–and were effectively locked out of the exercise of political power and the governance of society, as well as the spheres of intellectual endeavor and working with ideas overall– to increasingly take part in these spheres, with the aim of continually transforming society in the direction of communism. (source)
What could be more appealing to our society of victims than this warm invitation to become the ruling class over those who have “oppressed” them? Psychologically speaking, this is an ingenious way to gain the support of all those angry Social Justice Warriors who believe that racial minorities, women, and the LGBTQ community are all downtrodden.
In the economy section, true to the communist roots of the document, it discusses how “the means of production” will “become the common property and resource of the whole of society, and ultimately all of humanity.” So that means if you own a plant or a farm or a factory, it won’t be yours for long should they somehow manage to take power. Capitalism would be over in their commie utopia. In fact…
“one of the principal aims is to eliminate the ownership of private capital and the resultant relations of exploitation in the form of wage labor; and while, for a fairly long period of time, it will be necessary for people employed in enterprises and other units of the socialist economy to receive remuneration–and to meet their various personal needs, to a significant degree–through the medium of money, it will be possible, and will be the orientation, to eliminate, in a much shorter period of time, conditions and situations in which individuals are forced to work for other individuals who own private capital. Accordingly, the private ownership of means of production and other capital, and the hiring of wage labor by owners of private capital, shall be prohibited. (source)
Media independent of the government will require a license to operate. I think we all know what that means. Censorship would be utter and complete. Surprisingly, the “constitution” permits all those over the age of 18 to own firearms, but there is a clause stating that all rights can be withdrawn if “the central Executive Council” declares a “security emergency.” If this happens, they “may temporarily suspend rights and provisions set forth in this Article and elsewhere in this Constitution.”
He isn’t some skinny millennial living in his mama’s basement. According to Wikipedia, Avakian is in his 70s and has been pressing his agenda since the 1960s when he teamed up with the Black Panthers and the Students for a Democratic Society at Berkeley.
Avakian is teaming up with other groups, though, like Resist Fascism. Resist Fascism has some fascinating contributors, including the sh*t-disturbing George Soros. I wrote previously:
Refuse Fascism is a project of the Alliance for Global Justice. This is noted on their website where they ask for donations. (Obviously, I’m not recommending you donate. I’m just quoting this to show you where their bread gets buttered.)
To support our educational activities and make a tax-deductible donation by mail, make your check out to Alliance for Global Justice” (our fiscal sponsor; you can use the abbreviation AFGJ), designate Refuse Fascism in the memo and mail to the address above. RefuseFascism.org is a fiscally sponsored project of the Alliance for Global Justice, a registered 501(c)3. (source)
One of the group’s biggest donors is the Tides Foundation, a non-profit funded by billionaire progressive philanthropist George Soros. Tides gave AfGJ $50,000.
The United Steel Workers labor union also contributed $5,000. The city of Tucson is also listed in AfGJ’s 990 as a donor, but a city official says that the city acted merely as a pass-through for a Native American tribe that provided a grant to the activist group. The city official said that no city money went to AfGJ. (source)
Raise your hand if you’re surprised to see George Soros linked to this. Hello? Anyone?
George Soros (The Open Society Foundation): $1,750,000
W.K. Kellogg Foundation: $3,000,000
California Endowment: $524,000
Ford Foundation: $2,350,000
Hillary Clinton (Onward Together): $800,000
Take note, because these are the people and corporations that want to destroy our country.
How do they plan to bring this about?
The Revolutionary Communist Party is working with other groups to bring down the “Trump Pence regime.” In their “Strategy for Revolution, they state:
In order for revolution to be real there must be: a revolutionary crisis, and a revolutionary people, numbering in the millions andled by a far-seeing, highly organized and disciplined revolutionary party.
So they plan to use any type of crisis to stir the pot and gather more support. This includes shocking events, economic issues, and “breakdowns in the normal functioning of society.” Racial tension and strife fall right in line with their goals and add more bodies to their ranks.
As well, you can be sure that the Marxist agenda we see in our education system, most particularly our colleges and universities, is a funnel to deliver young people into the fold. The more our young people feel disenfranchised, angry, and out of place with society, the more they will hate it and wish to overturn it. Just one such example of this is Stefan Bradley, a professor at Loyola Marymount University who argued on behalf of violent protests just last week, writing:
An undercurrent in these concerns over activism is the threat of escalation — of peaceful demonstrations veering into violence and property destruction. To be sure, disruption should not be mistaken for violence, and inflicting physical harm (not counting self-defense) on opponents and property often derails a just cause. At times, though, it is the violent or destructive demonstrations that draw the attention of the wider public and motivates decision makers to act. The response of the institution to nonviolent disruption often determines the reaction of agitators. Some will quibble about what constitutes self-defense or even violence, but America’s past has proved that the powers of persuasion do not often yield just results. (source)
They are targeting the “oppressed” and the “victims” to empower their cause. They’re promoting anger and divisiveness.
More needs to be learned, and will be learned, about how the revolutionary struggle can win when these conditions have been brought into being, but the basic strategic conception and approach has been developed for actually defeating and dismantling the oppressive forces and institutions of this system—and bringing into being new institutions of a new, revolutionary system—when there is a revolutionary crisis and a revolutionary people…
But the possibility of revolution will never really ripen unless those who recognize the need for revolution are preparing the ground for this politically and ideologically even now: working to influence the thinking of people in a revolutionary direction, organizing them into the struggle against this system, and winning growing numbers to become actively involved in building the movement for revolution….
All along the way, both in more “normal times” and especially in times of sharp breaks with the “normal routine,” it is necessary to be working consistently to accumulate forces—to prepare minds and organize people in growing numbers—for revolution, among all those who can be rallied to the revolutionary cause. Among the millions and millions who catch hell in the hardest ways every day under this system. But also among many others who may not, on a daily basis, feel the hardest edge of this system’s oppression but are demeaned and degraded, are alienated and often outraged, by what this system does, the relations among people it promotes and enforces, the brutality this embodies.
What is the way to carry out this work? Fight the Power, and Transform the People, for Revolution. This is a big part of the answer. People need to fight back, and people do fight back, against the many ways human beings, and the environment, are exploited, degraded, ravaged and even destroyed by this system. But to make that fight more powerful—and, more, to carry it through to put an end to all this—people need to learn that the fundamental problem is this capitalist system, and the solution is getting rid of this system and bringing into being a new system, socialism, aiming for the final goal of a communist world. Fight the Power, and Transform the People, for Revolution is a key part of our strategic approach, which provides a way for the Party to unite with and give leadership to people to change themselves as they take part in the struggle to change the world…to lift their heads and broaden their vision, to recognize what kind of world is possible, what their real interests are, and who their real friends and real enemies are, as they rise up against this system…to take up a revolutionary viewpoint and revolutionary values and morals as they join with others to resist this system’s crimes and build up the basis for the ultimate all-out revolutionary struggle to sweep this system away and bring in a whole new way of organizing society, a whole new way of being…to become emancipators of humanity.
Rest assured, everything that we look around and see that makes us shake our heads in confusion has been done for a reason. There is an agenda.
This group is the enemy of freedom and the enemy of our way of life. Capitalism is the fuel of the American dream. It is the basis of every success story in our society. Without it, we’re all just cogs in a wheel spinning beyond our control. Capitalism is freedom.
An attempted communist revolution is not as far-fetched as people may think.
When you keep in mind that we very nearly had a self-proclaimed socialist as a top contender in our last presidential election, you will see that while this seems like the far-fetched fantasy of an angry bearded college student who writes beer-and-pizza-fueled manifestos in a basement apartment, it’s actually a very real movement that is gaining traction every day.
Violence is on the upswing and people like members of Antifa and Resist Fascism think nothing of brutally assaulting those who support capitalism, Trump, or the Conservative point of view. Undercover videos of late have shown these people making aggressive plans that include violence and weapons at an upcoming Ben Shapiro speaking engagement:
“The idea is plainclothes and hard tactics,” she explained. “I don’t think they’ll know what hit them. Because they’re not prepared for what we’re planning.”
Jared also filmed several members of Antifa and pressed them for information on what they were planning ahead of Shapiro’s speech.
They admitted that they were considering using various weapons against those who opposed them, including an “assault weapon,” a “sawed-off shotgun,” and a “regular rifle.” (source)
Here’s the video that the media ignored.
If this group succeeds in getting the numbers out there that they’re talking about, it will effectively shut down commerce in protest locations. Military, national guard, and police will step in. Counter-protests should be expected, and it will only be a matter of time until true violence like we haven’t seen in centuries, erupts in our city streets. Martial law in this situation will be a given.
One thing these Communists aren’t considering is the well-trained, gun-toting Americans that they wish to victimize will fight back and they will do so effectively. Not only will the police and military object to this attempt to overturn our constitution and government, but everyday patriotic citizens will also strongly resist.
It would be wise to be prepared to be prepared with food, water, and a personal defense plan. A violent attempt to overthrow our way of life via a communist revolution is on the very near horizon. Watch out for Nov. 4, because that could be the day that the next Civil War begins.
I have assembled a map and a list of United States military targets likely to be hit first compared with others. Although there are lots of military installations, the following military nuclear targets logically seem more likely than others to be on primary target lists.
I welcome your additional input (so long as it’s not ‘classified’) as this map and list is opinion based on strategic value military centers as well as those which are populous compared to others.
If you believe there are additional military nuclear targets that are highly likely to be worthy of primary nuclear targeting, comment below with your argument.
Here’s the list, not necessarily in a particular order:
This weekend, North Korea conducted their most powerful nuclear test ever, with what was believed to be a hydrogen bomb in the northern part of their country. The explosion was so massive that it triggered a man-made earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale. If North Korean sources are to be believed, the bomb tested was a powerful 100 kiloton weapon.
But that’s not all. To take the massive threat to an entirely different level, the North Korean state news also warned that a powerful hydrogen bomb could be detonated at a high altitude to create an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) capable of taking out parts of the American power grid. (PS: They have two satellites orbiting over the United States that could potentially carry out such an attack.)
Knowledge is power, so let’s break down this information with some explanations.
(Sign up here for daily informative articles like this one.)
What is a hydrogen bomb?
A hydrogen bomb has some similarities to an atom bomb, but works using an opposite chemical reaction and is far more powerful. Both hydrogen bombs and atomic bombs are nuclear in nature, so after the initial blast, there would be deadly radioactive fallout and environmental issues.
An atom bomb is what was used by the United States against the Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan during World War 2.
Nuclear fission produces the atomic bomb, a weapon of mass destruction that uses power released by the splitting of atomic nuclei.
When a single free neutron strikes the nucleus of an atom of radioactive material like uranium or plutonium, it knocks two or three more neutrons free. Energy is released when those neutrons split off from the nucleus, and the newly released neutrons strike other uranium or plutonium nuclei, splitting them in the same way, releasing more energy and more neutrons. This chain reaction spreads almost instantaneously. (source)
To give you an idea of the power of an atomic bomb, Hiroshima was hit with the power of 15,000 tons of TNT, while Nagasaki was blasted with the destructive power of 21,000 tons of TNT.
A hydrogen bomb works differently.
Nuclear fusion is a reaction that releases atomic energy by the union of light nuclei at high temperatures to form heavier atoms. Hydrogen bombs, which use nuclear fusion, have higher destructive power and greater efficiencies than atomic bombs.
Due to the high temperatures required to initiate a nuclear fusion reaction, the process is often referred to as a thermonuclear explosion. This is typically done with the isotopes of hydrogen (deuterium and tritium) which fuse together to form Helium atoms. This led to the term “hydrogen bomb” to describe the deuterium-tritium fusion bomb. (source)
Hydrogen bombs (H-bombs) have been used before.
The first hydrogen bomb was exploded on November 1, 1952 at the small island Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands. Its destructive power was several megatons of TNT. The blast, timed at 19:15 GMT, produced a light brighter than 1,000 suns and a heat wave felt 50 kilometres away. The Soviet Union detonated a hydrogen bomb in the megaton range in August of 1953. The US exploded a 15 megaton hydrogen bomb on March 1, 1954. It had a fireball of 4.8 km in diameter and created a huge mushroom-shaped cloud. (source)
An h-bomb is expected to be 700 times more powerful than the atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima, during which more than 150,000 people died. But they didn’t die all at once. Many of them suffered terrible, lingering deaths of agony. Here is the breakdown of this from a UCLA report.
Very large numbers of person were crushed in their homes and in the buildings in which they were working. Their skeletons could be seen in the debris and ashes for almost 1,500 meters from the center of the blast, particularly in the downwind directions.
Large numbers of the population walked for considerable distances after the detonation before they collapsed and died.
Large numbers developed vomiting and bloody and watery diarrhea (vomitus and bloody feces were found on the floor in many of the aid stations), associated with extreme weakness. They died in the first and second weeks after the bombs were dropped.
During this same period, deaths from internal injuries and from burns were common. Either the heat from the fires or infrared radiation from the detonations caused many burns, particularly on bare skin or under dark clothing.
After a lull without peak mortality from any special causes, deaths began to occur from purpura, which was often associated with epilation, anemia, and a yellowish coloration of the skin. The so-called bone marrow syndrome, manifested by a low white blood cell count and almost complete absence of the platelets necessary to prevent bleeding, was probably at its maximum between the fourth and sixth weeks after the bombs were dropped. (source)
Now, multiply the above by 700 times and you’ll have a good idea of the horrifying affects of a hydrogen bomb. If it were to strike a major population area in the United States, the death toll would be astounding.
This video shows a comparison of actual atomic and hydrogen bombs.
How large of an area would be affected by a hydrogen bomb?
According to the website National Terror Alert, created by the DHS, these are the distances at which the destruction would occur, using the Hiroshima bomb as a point of reference.
1 Megaton Surface Blast: Pressure Damage
The fission bomb detonated over Hiroshima had an explosive blast equivalent to 12,500 tons of TNT. A 1 megaton hydrogen bomb, hypothetically detonated on the earth’s surface, has about 80 times the blast power of that 1945 explosion.
Radius of destructive circle: 1.7 miles
12 pounds per square inch
At the center lies a crater 200 feet deep and 1000 feet in diameter. The rim of this crater is 1,000 feet wide and is composed of highly radioactive soil and debris. Nothing recognizable remains within about 3,200 feet (0.6 miles) from the center, except, perhaps, the remains of some buildings’ foundations. At 1.7 miles, only some of the strongest buildings — those made of reinforced, poured concrete — are still standing. Ninety-eight percent of the population in this area are dead.
Radius: 2.7 miles
Virtually everything is destroyed between the 12 and 5 psi rings. The walls of typical multi-story buildings, including apartment buildings, have been completely blown out. The bare, structural skeletons of more and more buildings rise above the debris as you approach the 5 psi ring. Single-family residences within this this area have been completely blown away — only their foundations remain. Fifty percent of the population between the 12 and 5 psi rings are dead. Forty percent are injured.
Radius: 4.7 miles
Any single-family residences that have not been completely destroyed are heavily damaged. The windows of office buildings have been blown away, as have some of their walls. The contents of these buildings’ upper floors, including the people who were working there, are scattered on the street. A substantial amount of debris clutters the entire area. Five percent of the population between the 5 and 2 psi rings are dead. Forty-five percent are injured.
Radius: 7.4 miles
Residences are moderately damaged. Commercial buildings have sustained minimal damage. Twenty-five percent of the population between the 2 and 1 psi rings have been injured, mainly by flying glass and debris. Many others have been injured from thermal radiation — the heat generated by the blast. The remaining seventy-five percent are unhurt. (source)
But it isn’t just the initial blast you’d have to be concerned about. The radioactive fallout would affect many more people further away from the blast during the first week.
1 Megaton Surface Blast: Fallout
One of the effects of nuclear weapons detonated on or near the earth’s surface is the resulting radioactive fallout. Immediately after the detonation, a great deal of earth and debris, made radioactive by the blast, is carried high into the atmosphere, forming a mushroom cloud. The material drifts downwind and gradually falls back to earth, contaminating thousands of square miles. This page describes the fallout pattern over a seven-day period.
Wind speed: 15 mph
Wind direction: due east
Time frame: 7 days
Distance: 30 miles
Much more than a lethal dose of radiation. Death can occur within hours of exposure. About 10 years will need to pass before levels of radioactivity in this area drop low enough to be considered safe, by U.S. peacetime standards.
Distance: 90 miles
A lethal dose of radiation. Death occurs from two to fourteen days.
Distance: 160 miles
Causes extensive internal damage, including harm to nerve cells and the cells that line the digestive tract, and results in a loss of white blood cells. Temporary hair loss is another result.
Distance: 250 miles
Causes a temporary decrease in white blood cells, although there are no immediate harmful effects. Two to three years will need to pass before radioactivity levels in this area drop low enough to be considered safe, by U.S. peacetime standards.
*Rem: Stands for “roentgen equivalent man.” This is a measurement used to quantify the amount of radiation that will produce certain biological effects. (source)
So, as you can see, a hydrogen bomb puts the destruction at a whole different level from the nuclear warheads that people expected where Kim Jong Un’s most devastating weapons. And sadly, this isn’t the only risk.
Could an H-bomb detonated at high altitude take down the American power grid?
Something that could potentially be even more deadly during the long-term is a hydrogen bomb that is detonated at high altitude, which would cause an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) that could devastate the electrical grid across a wide geographical swath.
And this weekend, Kim Jong Un directly threatened the United States with such an attack.
The news Sunday morning that North Korea had launched what appeared to be its sixth nuclear test and most powerful one to date is troubling enough.
But a statement from the rogue regime took things to a whole new level. The North said it had tested an H-bomb that was “a multi-functional thermonuclear nuke with great destructive power which can be detonated at high altitudes for super-powerful EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack according to strategic goals.” (source)
In such an event, part of the United States could lose power indefinitely. Our infrastructure and devices would not be repairable. Everything would require replacement, which could take several years.
NOTE: For an excellent, non-sensational resource, I recommend anything written by Dr. Arthur T. Bradley, a NASA scientist and recurring speaker over at Preppers University. He has written numerous books and articles about the threat of an EMP. His book, Disaster Preparedness for EMP Attacks and Solar Storms, is a must read for anyone concerned about the possibility of this type of attack. In it, he dispels many rumor and myths about such an event and replaces them with facts based on his research with NASA.
It’s important to note that North Korea does have satellites that would be capable of an atmospheric detonation that would cause an electromagnetic pulse. In fact, two of the were over our country as recently as last month. At the time, Dr. Peter Vincent Pry, executive director of the Congressional Task Force on National and Homeland Security and chief of staff of the Congressional EMP Commission, warned:
“The EMP Commission has officially been warning about those satellites especially now that the (intelligence) community admits that North Korea can miniaturize warheads,” Pry stated. “Our argument all along has been that they could make weapons small enough to put on those satellites that pass over the United States on the optimum trajectory for an EMP attack on North America.”
“And they would obviously be a basis for a surprise EMP attack if North Korea wants to commit aggression against South Korea. Or to blackmail us if we were going to intervene to deliver on our security guarantees for Japan, South Korea or the Pacific.”
Pry said the satellites are orbiting at the “optimum height for putting an EMP field over all 48 contiguous United States.”
Pry warned that deploying satellites for the purpose of an EMP option against the U.S. “is exactly the kind of thing that he (North Korean leader Kim Jong Un) would do. It would make strategic sense to do it. We do know that Kim Jong Un is a risk-taker.”
Pry surmised that the North Koreans may be utilizing the satellites for an attack plan pioneered by the Soviets during the Cold War to attack the U.S. with an EMP as part of a larger surprise assault aimed at crippling the U.S. military.
Unlike the Soviet plan, Pry opined, the North Koreans may be seeking to use an EMP attack to target “our electrical grid and our civilian critical infrastructure. And they only need one weapon to do that.” (source)
Zero Hedge reported on this worst-case scenario event:
However, it would probably lead to an unknown number of indirect deaths as hospitals and essential infrastructure lose power.
“The idea of an EMP attack is to detonate a nuclear weapon tens or hundreds of miles above the earth with the aim of knocking out power in much of the U.S. Unlike the U.S. atomic bombs dropped over Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, such a weapon wouldn’t directly destroy buildings or kill people. Instead, electromagnetic waves from the nuclear explosion would generate pulses to overwhelm the electric grid and electronic devices in the same way a lightning surge can destroy equipment.”
In the worst possible scenario, regional power grids could be offline for months, potentially costing many deaths as people would eventually start running out of necessities like food and medicine. Lawmakers and the US military have been aware of the EMP threat for many years, according to WSJ. IN a 2008 report commissioned by Congress, the authors warned that an EMP attack would lead to “widespread and long-lasting disruption and damage to the critical infrastructures that underpin the fabric of US society.”
In a report published last month, the Hill noted that the North could choose to carry out an EMP attack on Japan or South Korea as a more politically acceptable act of aggression. Such an attack could help the North accomplish its three most-important political goals, the Hill said.
“North Korea has nuclear-armed missiles and satellites potentially capable of electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack. EMP is considered by many the most politically acceptable use of a nuclear weapon, because the high-altitude detonation (above 30 kilometers) produces no blast, thermal, or radioactive fallout effects harmful to people.
EMP itself is harmless to people, destroying only electronics. But by destroying electric grids and other life-sustaining critical infrastructures, the indirect effects of EMP can kill far more people in the long-run than nuclear blasting a city. In this scenario, North Korea makes an EMP attack on Japan and South Korea to achieve its three most important foreign policy goals: reunification with South Korea, revenge upon Japan for World War II, and recognition of North Korea as a world power.” (source)
Conventional wisdom tells us that North Korea would be incredibly reticent to live up to its threats of launching a missile strike, nuclear or otherwise, on South Korea, Guam, Japan or elsewhere because the retaliation from the United States would be immediate and ferocious, effectively destroying the country and killing all of its leadership.
However, if Kim Jong Un’s first strike is a successful EMP attack against North America, this would largely shut down the ability of the U.S. to respond. While some elements of U.S. military infrastructure have been hardened for resilience against an EMP strike, there is no standardization across the board. Plus, civilian infrastructure is hardly protected, if at all. The United States and Canada would be in the dark and sitting ducks.
A handful of national security experts and legislators in the U.S. have attempted to sound the alarm about this troubling vulnerability but have largely been unsuccessful in getting regulations in place. The utilities industry claims it’s not its problem, but that of the military’s, something experts firmly dispute. (source)
Of course, a miscalculation by North Korea could lead to a ground strike instead of an atmospheric one, leading back to the first scenario we discussed. Really, with things so volatile, you should be preparing for all possible scenarios:
Is the United States discussing a military response?
General James Mattis, the Secretary of Defense, has suggested that a military response could be imminent.
“Our commitment among the allies are ironclad,” Mattis said. “Any threat to the United States or its territories, including Guam, or our allies will be met with a massive military response, a response both effective and overwhelming.”
Mattis called on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to “take heed” of the UN Security Council’s unanimous position against North Korea’s nuclear program and again stressed the US military’s position.
“We are not looking to the total annihilation of a country, namely North Korea, but as I said, we have many options to do so,” Mattis said. (source)
Don’t be distracted while the United States digs itself out from under the devastation of Hurricane Harvey and holds its breath watching the uncertain path of Hurricane Irma. As devastating as those storms are and could be, we may have even more dire things to worry about.
Do you have knowledge about nuclear weapons?
My research comes from a variety of experts cited on the internet, but it’s purely theoretical for me. Do you have more information?
Please weigh in below in the comments section. Your information is very welcome. Please let us know where your knowledge comes from. (Do you/did you work in this field? Do you have a military background? A scientific background?) We’d love to hear from you.
(Natural News) Unbeknownst to most Americans, there is a conference that takes place in Las Vegas every single year that draws the most competent, capable hackers in the world. For four days they meet to discuss and demonstrate the latest techniques they’ve discovered (and likely used) to essentially disrupt as much of modern society as possible.
In the digital, wired, Internet-connected age, in a single room, at a single convention, lies the fate of modern societies everywhere.
The event is called “Black Hat,” and it just concluded last week. This year’s event drew about 16,000 hackers and information security experts from all over the world, as lawmakers, policymakers, defense experts, financial institutions, power companies and other infrastructure managers lie awake at night trying to figure out how to defend modern IT systems from these folks.
Hackers routinely come to the Black Hat convention to demonstrate how to break into electronic systems embedded in medical devices, ATMs, cars, routers and mobile phones. This year, at the 20th annual gathering, one security researcher walked attendees through a hack of a wind farm.
“Wind farm control networks are extremely susceptible to attack,” said the researcher, Jason Staggs, who works on behalf of the University of Tulsa.
He says hackers only need to find access to a single wind turbine in order to implant a virus or malware that would then spread throughout the wind farm. He said he’d been able to hack into multiple wind farms, after first obtaining permission from the operators.
“We can turn the turbine on or the turbine off or put it in an idle state,” he told the gathered attendees, as he then demonstrated his technique.
The nuclear standoff between the United States and North Korea has intensified to a level that can lead nowhere good. It’s time to talk about how to prepare for a nuclear attack.
First, here’s some of the recent chatter.
Last weekend, incendiary words between the two countries leave little doubt in anyone’s mind that a nuclear attack is likely to happen. The international smack-talk is leading somewhere.
Many people strongly believe that this is a media creation and that North Korea isn’t actually a threat. Even if that is the case, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine that an attack could happen on US soil, regardless of the perpetrator. (More on the topic of potential false flags here.) Although we must always watch the news with a healthy dose of skepticism, this isn’t the purpose of the article. Survival is.
Here’s a quick summary of what has been going on over the past week, according to the global media:
Aug. 3: After a successful ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) test, North Korea threatened to send “unexpected ‘gift packages” and said that America is “on the knife’s edge of life and death.” At this point, experts established that an ICBM bearing a nuclear warhead could reach New York City within an hour.
Aug. 5: The UN imposed economic sanctions on North Korea that could cost the country up to one billion dollars. (source)
Aug. 6: President Trump threatened North Korea. He told reporters, “North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.”
Referring to North Korea’s volatile leader, Kim Jong-un, Mr. Trump said, “He has been very threatening beyond a normal state, and as I said, they will be met with fire and fury, and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before.” (source)
Aug. 8: North Korea’s state-run news agency, KCNA, said their military was “examining the operational plan” to strike the US territory of Guam with strategic ballistic missiles. CNN reported, “Specifically, the statement mentioned a potential strike on Andersen Air Force Base designed ‘to send a serious warning signal to the US.’”
Aug, 9: North Korea dismissed Trump’s threat and called it a “load of nonsense,” stating that only “absolute force can work on the president. (source)
Whether this is propaganda or not, we should be on high alert. A very real threat has been established, let’s move on to actions that we can all take in order to make ourselves safer.
Would a nuclear attack kill us all or cause a global nuclear winter?
I got a message from a reader the other day that encompasses what a lot of us are thinking:
N. Korea now has a Nuke or Nuke capabilities. Do you beef up your preps, wait for the chips to fall, kiss your butt goodbye, or other? Should we be acting business as usual?
First, let me dispel two myths about a nuclear attack.
We won’t all die or wish we were dead if a nuclear strike occurs. The movies – as much as I love them – have done us a terrible disservice here. If you are at Ground Zero of an attack, there is absolutely nothing you can do. Everything will be vaporized and that’s that. However, if you are outside the immediate blast zone, it is completely survivable and I don’t mean survivable in the horrible, lingering death kind of way. I mean, unharmed. You just have to know exactly what to do immediately in order to protect yourself. More on that in a moment.
We won’t suffer a nuclear winter. Everything thinks it will be like the post-apocalyptic scenario in that horrible book/movie, The Road. People aren’t going to be trying to eat each other. In that particular plot, the nuclear war was so great that a huge cloud of ash covered the planet. In reality, it would take hundreds of nuclear strikes to cause something like that, which is unlikely to occur. This isn’t to downplay the horror and death of one strike, but to point out that the aftermath isn’t going to make the quality of life on Earth as terrible as what the movies portray.
Here is what would happen if a 10 kiloton nuclear strike occurred.
Contrary to popular belief, a nuke won’t kill everyone within hundreds of miles. If you aren’t in the immediate blast radius, a nuclear strike is absolutely survivable.
The one-mile radius around the blast will be virtually unsurvivable. Within two miles, people will suffer 3rd-degree burns from the intense wave of heat.
If you are within 10-20 miles of the blast, the winds will be coming at about 600 miles per hour. This will take down buildings and cause a tremendous amount of pressure. Some experts recommend that you keep your mouth open to try and reduce the pressure on your eardrums. Looking at the blast could cause permanent blindness.
According to the DHS, 10 kilotons is the approximate size of nuclear weapon we could expect.
Nearly everyone within a half mile radius of the point of impact would die and most of the buildings would be demolished. This would be considered Ground Zero.
The area within the next half mile would suffer extensive damage, fires, and serious injuries.
Areas within three miles could see minor injuries to people and slight damage to their homes.
The fallout would kill even more people. According to the DHS:
Within 10 to 20 miles of the explosion, radioactive exposure would cause nausea and vomiting within hours and death without medical treatment.
But for those near enough to the blast, experiencing more than 800R of radiation, not seeking shelter immediately would cause deaths with or without medical treatment, the study found.
People would not be able to evacuate this area as fallout would arrive within just 10 minutes.
People upwind of the strike and outside the 20-mile radius would be unlikely to suffer any effects. People downwind would need to take shelter. Deaths from cancer that is related to the fallout could occur for many years after.
Here’s what I’m doing to prepare for a nuclear attack.
As cool as it would be to have one, you don’t have to have a bunker to survive if you take the time now to get prepped. You can survive by learning everything you can to prepare for a nuclear attack.
So, here’s what I’m doing.
Every time a new threat rolls around, I discover that while I have many of my bases covered, there are a few things I hadn’t accounted for. A nuclear threat is no different. There were some supplies I had to pick up myself, particularly a bigger supply of no-cook food.
Part of your preparations will depend on where you live, so this will be different for everyone. Are you near any places that are likely targets? Places like Washington DC, Hawaii, New York City, Los Angeles, and large military bases are more likely targets than say, a low population area in the midwest. Of course, this doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Just that it’s less likely.
Are you in a house or an apartment building? What is the best place in your home to seek shelter? Plan all of this ahead of time. If you know exactly what steps you are going to take, you will be able to better perform them under pressure.
Here are some key points to consider.
You won’t have a whole lot of notice.
Scientists say that residents of Hawaii would have only 8-12 minutes notice if an ICBM was headed their way, and residents of New York City will have an hour. Clearly, there won’t be time to run to the store – and if you did, you’d be fighting it out with a bunch of terrified, panicked people – so get your supplies together now.
You could be in your car.
If you are in your car, make certain to turn the vent to recirculation so that you don’t bring any outside air into the vehicle. Your goal should be to immediately get to shelter.
Be prepared to go into lockdown.
In nearly every case, staying home is the best course of action. Imagine you are in New York City and this nuke is headed your way. If you try to evacuate, you are most likely to get stuck on one of the bridges on the way out of Manhattan and that would be far more deadly than hunkering down in your apartment and hoping you are outside the half mile radius of Ground Zero. Experts say that you should plan to stay sheltered for a minimum of 9 days. Our personal plan is 14-21 days, depending on proximity and wind direction. I’d rather err on the side of caution, personally.
During a talk on surviving a nuclear attack, professor Iwrin Redlener, US specialist on disaster preparedness, said: “In that 10 to 15 minutes, all you have to do is go about a mile away from the blast.
“Within 20 minutes, it comes straight down. Within 24 hours, lethal radiation is going out with prevailing winds.”
Prof Redlener said you should feel for the wind and begin running perpendicular to it – not upwind or downwind
He said: “You’ve got to get out of there. If you don’t get out of there, you’re going to be exposed to lethal radiation in very short order.
“If you can’t get out of there, we want you to go into a shelter and stay there. Now, in a shelter in an urban area means you have to be either in a basement as deep as possible, or you have to be on a floor – on a high floor – if it’s a ground burst explosion, which it would be, higher than the ninth floor.
So you have to be tenth floor or higher, or in the basement. But basically, you’ve got to get out of town as quickly as possible. And if you do that, you actually can survive a nuclear blast.”
The most hazardous fallout particles are readily visible as fine sand-sized grains so you must keep away from them and not go outside if you see them. (source)
While I’m not a professor, I would not be trying to run perpendicular. I’d be trying to get inside to shelter, ASAP.
Fortify your home against fallout.
Use duct tape and tarps to seal off all windows, doors, and vents. Get a LOT of duct tape and tarps.
Turn off any type of climate control that pulls the outside air into your home. Expect to survive without heat or air conditioning for the duration.
Close off your chimney.
If someone enters the home, make certain that there is a room set up that is separate from other family members so that they can decontaminate. All clothing they were wearing should be placed outside and they should immediately shower thoroughly.
Make a breezeway for putting things outdoors (like pet or human waste.) Hang heavy tarps around the door and put on disposable coveralls, gloves, shoe covers, and masks if you have to actually go out. Disrobe, discard the disposable clothing by tossing it out the door, and shower immediately when you get back inside.
If you don’t have a basement, go to the most central part of your house and erect as many barriers as possible. If there is no central area without windows and exterior walls, go to the room furthest away from prevailing winds.
Have enough supplies on hand to wait out the danger.
As with many emergencies, you need to be prepared to survive at home without help from anyone. It’s unknown whether water and electricity will be running, and if the water is running, whether it will be safe to drink. Prep as though you won’t have access to these utilities and if you do, then it’ll be a pleasant surprise.
Stock up on emergency food. (Get Non-GMO Emergency Food in bulk HERE) In our current home, all of my emergency cooking methods rely on me being able to go outdoors. Because of this, I have stocked a one month supply of no-cook foods that do not require refrigeration. Canned vegetables and fruits, canned beans, pouches of rice and quinoa, crackers, peanut butter, dried fruit. You get the idea. The eating may not be exciting, but we won’t starve to death. You can find a more thorough list of no-cook foods here.
Have a supply of water for all family members and pets that will last throughout the 9-day waiting period that you need to remain indoors. (Or longer, which is what we’re planning.)
Get paper plates and cutlery in the event that the water isn’t running so you don’t have to waste your precious supply washing dishes.
If you have pets, have supplies on hand for their sanitation – you can’t let them go outside because not only would they be exposed, they would bring radiation in with them. So, pee pads, cat litter, etc, are all necessary. Solid waste can probably be flushed.
This is an overview but there is much more to learn about a nuclear event and the more knowledge you have, the more likely you are to survive without any ill effects.
Lisa Bedford and I created a course over at Preppers University called The Nuclear Preparedness Intensive. It contains 2 hours of interviews with a military nuclear expert, hundreds of pages of downloadable information, shopping lists, military guides, and far more information than I could ever put together in a blog post. With this course, you will truly know everything that I know about surviving a nuclear attack. It costs $29. You can learn more about it here. We had been working on this for quite a while, but with the uptick in rhetoric, we decided now was the time to introduce the class. It will really help you be prepared.
