Hurricane Newton will bring dangerous flooding and mudslides to parts of northern Mexico, including in popular tourist locations in Baja California, through the middle of the week.

About 14,000 tourists are in the path of Newton in Baja California Sur, Genaro Ruiz, the state tourism secretary said, according to the Associated Press.

Severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes will continue to sweep across the central U.S. into Thursday night.

Storms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail and violent tornadoes will stretch from Texas to Nebraska.

While storms have battered the region earlier this week, this round of severe weather will likely be more intense and widespread.

As Missouri residents continue to recover and clean up from deadly flooding, communities in Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi are bracing for dangerous flooding along the Mississippi River and its tributaries.

Mississippi River floodwaters have receded around the St. Louis area, and communities that were evacuated have returned to deal with the aftermath of flood damage.

“Waters are receding but cleanup continues in many Missouri communities,” Gov. Jay Nixon said on Twitter on Monday, Jan. 4, adding that the state is coordinating with federal and local officials to speed recovery.

Now, floodwaters are moving downstream along the Mississippi River, with major flooding expected for some locations in Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi.

The Mississippi River will swell to peak levels in Tennessee and northern Arkansas as the week draws to a close.

Travel problems will occur across the south-central United States this weekend as a major storm brings everything from blizzard conditions to the threat for tornadoes.

This storm will slowly track northeastward across the South Central states into Monday with the likelihood of closed roads and flight cancellations.

This storm will create a travel headache for anyone trying to get home following the Christmas holiday. Those that do not need to travel this weekend are urged to stay home.
